Flooding Possible This Weekend

The following message was sent out by West Norriton Township Emergency Management via the county RSAN system (Ready Montco) today:

Attention residents along the Schuylkill River and flood prone areas. The potential exists for flooding from Friday 3-12 through Sunday 3-14.  Two (2) to four (4) inches of rain are expected during this time with higher amounts possible.

If you would like to get email and text/sms alerts like this directly from the township, click the Ready Montco link on the left side of this page.

We would like to remind all residents to avoid travelling across roadways covered by floodwaters.

It takes only about two feet of water to float a car and a car could be pushed off a road by even less water than that depending on the velocity of the moving water.  When a road is inundated, even by seemingly standing water, you have no way of knowing whether or not the road has been compromised.  We urge you to avoid flooded roadways.

Beef & Beer Benefit for Injured Firefighter

Mike and Michelle Harkins

On Friday, January 22, Jefferson Fire Co. member Mike Harkins was involved in a serious vehicle accident on Rt. 422 (http://www.lpfire.com/history.html?view=1&id=46946).

Mike has been at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital ICU since the accident recovering from his injuries.  He was released to a rehab facility on March 2.  As his medical costs climb over $1,000,000, the fire company is holding a fundraiser to help cover some of the costs that are not covered by insurance.

The fundraiser will be held at the IBEW Local 380 Electricians’ Hall located at 3900 Ridge Pike, Collegeville, PA on April 24, 2010 (7p to 12a).  The event will be a beef and beer style fundraiser with a DJ and comedian.  Tickets will be $30.  For more information, contact Donna Benz at dbenz@jeffersonfireco.com.

Please keep Mike and Michelle in your thoughts and prayers as Mike works through the recovery process.
